Rules of The Fast Draw

(Drawn up by the Committee, Rebels Retreat 06/06/2008)

1. GUNS.

 All Guns used at a Rebels Retreat event, must conform to the following regulations:

       1.1 All Guns must be Western Replica Blank Firing Pistols or Rifles, representing the period of the old West from around 1850 to 1885.

       1.2 All Guns must be either legally manufactured and sold in the UK or Manufactured abroad and legally imported into the UK.

       1.3 All Guns must comply with current Home Office Firearms Legislation.

         a. Guns manufactured as "Side Blasters" must not have barrels altered in any way.

         b. Guns manufactured as "Through Blasters" must not have had the baffles removed.

      1.4 Barrels must measure at least 4 ¾ inches from the front of the chamber.

      1.5 Hammers must measure no more than ½ an inch above the top of the frame of the gun, or in the case of open framed pistols, the top of the      cylinder, when the hammer is at rest.

      1.6 Front sights may be removed.

      1.7 Trigger guards may be filed down on the right hand side in line with the trigger.

      1.8 No other alterations are to be made to guns.

2. RIGS.

       2.1 The front of the holster must cover at least up to the front of the guns chamber and must be no more than one inch from the chamber/frame       when the gun is at rest.

      2.2 The side of the holster must cover at least ½ of the chamber of the gun when the gun is at rest.

      2.3 The holster must not be at an angle of more than 45 degrees from the upright when the shooter is in their shooting stance, and must be          roughly in line with the centre of their leg when viewed from the side

      3. AMMUNITION

      3.1 Home Loads and 9mm factory loads will not be permitted inside other than by prior agreement from the Committee.

      3.2 Pistol and shotgun primers, .22 long and short factory loads are permitted

 

4. HEALTH & SAFETY

       4.1 The participant must be 2 metres away from the cactus where this is used.

      4.2 As soon as the Fast Draw is finished the participants must empty their guns.

      4.3 If a side blaster is used then no one must be standing alongside.

      4.4 Under the general rules of the club no one will be allowed to participate unless they can provide proof that they carry Public Liability           Insurance covering this type of event or they do so by invitation of an insured member of Rebels Retreat

5. MARSHALLING

      5.1 A marshal's decision is final and is non negotiable.

6. DISCIPLINES

      Various disciplines will be used during the fast draw. These may be added to or removed by Committee decision. The main disciplines with their definitions are listed below.

      6.1.1  6 + 3

        The gun hand will be alongside the holstered gun with no part closer than 3" to any part of the gun. The other hand will have the thumb resting on the gun belt level with the centre of the shooter's body.No part of this hand to be closer than 6" to any part of the gun until the signal to fire is given when this hand will 'fan' the gun.

       6.1.2 Freestyle

           This is free for the shooter to decide but neither hand must be in contact with the gun, (unless using Nevada), until the signal to fire is given

      6.1.3  Long Arm

           Both arms to hang down loosley by the shooter's side. The gun hand must be at least 3" away from the gun butt. The forearm may rest          against the gun butt provided that the hand is at least 3" below the gun butt until the signal to fire is given..

       6.1.4 Thumb Bust

           The gun will be fired single handed, 'fanning' is not allowed, the gun will be cocked by use of the thumb of the gun hand which must be no        closer than 3" from any part of the gun until the signal to fire is given.

      6.1.5 Cavalry Twist

           The gun will be reversed in the holster with the butt facing forward. Both thumbs will be touching the shooter's gunbelt in the centre of their      body with the forefingers facing forward and touching each other until the signal to fire is given.

      6.1.6 Nevada

           The gun hand must have the thumb resting on the rear tip of the gun butt with the fingers and palm in a horizontal position. The other hand       will be similarly orientated with the thumb resting on the gun belt in line with the centre of the shooter's body until the signal to fire is given.

       6.1.7 6 & 6

           Both hands must be positioned with forefingers touching and thumbs touching gunbelt in in line with the centre of the shooter's body until        the signal to fire is given.

       6.1.8 Coffin Draw

            Both arms held crossed over shooters chest until signal to fire is given

       6.2 All disciplines will be covered over a six week period.

       6.3 Disciplines will be drawn on the night by someone not involved with the Fast Draw.

       6.4 The discipline drawn should stand for all participants - except at the discretion of the person running the Fast Draw ( and the agreement of  the participants.)

 7. CHALLENGES

      7.1 Apart from the first challenge, which is always 6 + 3, the challenger will always choose the discipline.

8. SCORING

      8.1 There will be one point for each level reached. The winner will get 2 points more than the person placed second.

9. PENALTIES

      9.1 Anyone not complying with the above rules will be disqualified.

      9.2 Anyone having their gun cocked in the holster in any discipline will be disqualified. This includes the challenges unless intended as lighthearted relief.

       

10. CONTROL

       10.1 The Person running the Gunfight, hereafter referred to as The Organiser, shall be nominated by the Committee and shall be in charge of the       event.

       10.2 The Cactus is used at present.

       10.3 The 'Signal to Fire' is provided by a light coming on on top of the cactus, which is arranged such that it can be viewed by shooters on both      sides of the cactus.

       10.4 The Organiser shall call up 2 shooters at a time, (except after first challenge when shooters take turns to challenge previous winner of           challenge) at a time, ensure that 2 marshalls are in place, and issue the following requests:

         10.4.1 Marshalls are you ready?

         10.4.2 Gunfighters are you ready?

         10.4.3 Watch the light or Wait for the light.

           Between each of the first 2 requests the organiser will ensure the readiness or otherwise before continuing.

      10.5 The light is controlled by switch operated by an assistant appointed by The Organiser. The light switch must be operated within a time lapse     of between 0 & 7 seconds from the command 'Watch the Light' or similar being given.

       10.6 The Organiser, with assistance, will make a random draw of 2 shooters from all entered, putting the winner forward for a further random        draw to the next round, until a final winner is declared. In the event of uneven number of shooters taking part then one will automatically         move forward to the next round and be one of the first pair of shooters called.

      10.7 The Organiser shall call each pair of shooters up as required, and announce the next pair to be 'on standby'.

       10.8 The shooters shall do their best to be ready when called in the interests of continuity of the competition
