Hi there - if you've been waiting for the July report, here it is!
We've had some true Country singers this month and no mistake! First off there was Dean Austin on the 3rd. at Sterndale Moor.
He looked really cool in his black and white gear, right up to the Western hat. His voice was great and the line dancers were soon stomping to his music. Even better he had a true Western style accent as he hailed
originally from Canada. Needless to say the cowboys approved of him too, so much so in fact that the little fellas from Planet Western got together to seranade him towards the end of the show.
Then on 10th we moved to 'The Waterloo.' As Buckshot and Dallas were at a wedding the hosts were Frosty and Chantilly. Frosty
really enjoyed being Buckshot, the result being that there was an amazing change in his physique as the evening wore on, meanwhile Chantilly made an excellent MC for the fast draw.
The singer was the amazing Rosa. I don't know what she's on - but I could do with some of it! Her verve and energy are
amazing, so no wonder she's a firm favourite with the men. Fortunately she's good at line dancing as well, so the women approve of her too.
As a bonus she sang 'Crazy' as a duet with our own JR. A truly memorable evening. (I draw a veil over the high jinks Kalamitty
our DJ got up. If you want to know, ask someone who was there!)
After missing the 17th because of a Country Festival at Welshpool, we were back at Sterndale Moor on 24th with Phil Steel.
What a singer he is! His manner may be laid back but his voice certainly isn't. He sang a good variety of Country songs so that the cowboys were kept happy while the singers made their way through their repetoire of
line dances, partner dances and a hoe-down.
At the end of the night Kalamitty felt that 'Ghost Riders in the Sky' could be improved with the addition of cattle and sheep
noises. Again our singer kept his cool. Amazing!
Meanwhile Frosty was now taking up the role of general MC and Chantilly had found a permanent job as caller for the fastdraw.
A good use for their talents!
On the final Saturday of July our singer was that bubbly blonde Carolanne 'B'. As the daughter of a Yorkshire miner she is in
the real tradition of the female Country singer. No wonder she is able to render Loretta Lynne's 'I was Born a Coal Miner's Daughter' with such feeling. Her act included songs by other well-known women Country
singers as well as general Country songs.
The evening went with a swing. By the end it had turned into a mutual admiration society, with us liking her corny jokes and
her liking our dancing, especially the hoedown. Mind you, we made such a hash of one dance that I shall never know how she kept her face straight. We didn't!
On this occasion the fast draw was supervised by both Chantilly and Mississippi. The prizes were presented by 'Miss High
Peak.' I don't know if this is going to become a regular thing.
Why not come and find out?
Cheers !
Mrs Rusty
