Hi there! Another month has ended at High Peak CWC and we've been having some great acts.
At the first meeting at Sterndale Moor we had the brilliant duo, 'Saloon Drifters.' They were a complete act, with songs, jokes,
patter, great costumes – the lot! Fantastic!
It was Buckshot and Dallas's wedding anniversary and they had laid on a celebration buffet. Unfortunately Dallas was ill and missed
it. However it was Keith and Betty's anniversary too and they led everybody in the 'Anniversary Waltz.' Our appropriately dressed Preacher had planned a double wedding anniversary ceremony, but the fact that one of
the parties was missing played havoc with his script.
The 'Saloon Drifters' delighted everybody by singing, 'And The South Will Rise again,' (cue the Rebels waving their flags) and 'The
Trilogy' for the closing ceremony.
On October 9th we were at the 'Waterloo' with the artist Donna Wylde. She may be petite, but her voice certainly isn't and she delighted everybody with her numbers, especially those of women Country artists like Leanne Rimes and Patsy Cline.
At these two first meetings Preacher was the focus of the artists' jokes, but he gave as good as he got, and so did they!
The next week's performer was Darren Jones. He has an amazing stage presence, and his costumes were quite distinctive. During the
evening he went from cowboy to rebel soldier. He also carried a gun in his holster.
Darren sang quite a lot of songs I didn't know, although 'All My Ex's Live In Wrexham' was a bit suspect. I particularly liked 'The
Drinking Bone' which he performed with actions.
The next Saturday we were back at the 'Waterloo.' Ivor James was our singer. He has a wonderful baritone speaking voice. Amazingly
his singing voice is a touch higher and reminds me of black treacle!
This time Preacher was in charge of the fast draw. NB Subsequent to my writing about the different types of fast draw last month I
can now add the 'coffin draw' and the 'undertaker.' Darren Jones introduced the former when he joined in the fast-draw practice as 'Hoss' on the 16th.
Incidentally, we were pleased to see the return of Sylvia and Kalamitty on the 23rd as they had both been missing because of illness. Unfortunately, despite the brilliant acts in October our numbers were a bit decimated owing to illness and holidays.
Our artist on the last Saturday of the month was Dave Buckley from Oldham. He stepped in at short notice when an emergency prevented
our booked singer from coming. I wasn't there but I am told he was a very worthy stand-in and both dancers and listeners had a good time.
The highlight of this meeting was Buckshot and Dallas renewing their marriage vows with the good offices of Preacher. Sundown was
the best man and Bronco the interrupter. The latter was silenced by being removed from the room and 'shot.' Unfortunately he managed to return again. It must have been an 'up-shot!'
Speaking of up-shots I am reminded that there is now a system of medallions and trophies to present to winners and runners-up in the
fast draw.
According to my notes the winners last month were Bronco, Crazy-Legs Fred, Sundown and Frosty. The runners-up were Maverick, JR,
Sundown and Bronco. I don't have the results for the last week.
Well that's it for now. If you do have any comments about the High Peak CWC meetings or the web-site please post them on our
web-site comments board. You may have seen something I haven't or want to make a particular point that I haven't.
Let's get a dialogue going!
'Bye for now,
Mrs. Rusty
