The High Peak CWC in September
Hi there!
Well let's see what happened in September at the High Peak CWC.
I missed the first meeting as I was in South Wales with my younger daughter whose first baby was due. The
bare details I have are that the singer was Ron Waters who sang a range of Country songs but that quite a few of our regular members were absent. Among the absentees were Kalamitty (our DJ) and his wife Westie.
However I was there at the next meeting of the CWC on 11th September at 'The Waterloo' when the artist was Stu Peters. I immediately took to him because of his easy charm and his ready smile. I have noted that he sang with a twang and that his guitar playing had a good beat. I see that I also liked his waistcoat.
He sang a lot of well-known songs, so that the dancers had a good evening. Although he was singing 'I've got
heartaches by the double' as the Preacher and his mother entered I'm sure it was only coincidence.
Kalamitty was still away and so the DJ was Buckshot. I feel that comments like, 'Put a shilling in' and 'Don't get
the DJ unless you've got a garden pond' (during the raffle) were rather unkind!
The next Saturday the meeting was at Sterndale Moor. We were expecting Kalamitty to have returned and so we were a
bit startled to see both he and Buckshot driving away from the venue at a great rate of knots. It turned out that they were going to Kalamitty's house to get a spare CD player. Unfortunately Kalamitty forgot to take
his house key and so they had a wasted fifty odd mile trip!
Meanwhile Maverick was holding the fort for them. We fortunately have all sorts of talented people in our club.
The singer was Brad Lee, who had apparently had some difficulty finding the club. Had he visited this website he
would have had no difficulty!
Brad Lee proved to be quite a natty dresser. He again sang many well-liked Country songs, so that everybody enjoyed
themselves, both listeners and dancers. Some of his friends from Stoke came along to the club as well.
I noted that on this evening as well as the fast draw competition there were also challenges, when each challenger
could nominate the type of draw he/she preferred.
The type of draw mentioned were '6 and 3' (the most usual), 'cavalry twist,' 'Nevada,' 'long arm,' 'thumb bust' and
'free style,' this last being 'choose for yourself.'
I was again missing from the club on the last Saturday of September as I went to meet the new addition to our
family; a baby girl named Ella Eirlys.
Buckshot told Rusty that the singer was Dick Ryman, a popular act with which to end the month. He commented
that it was a good night and that there was a mix of Country songs, most of them being suitable for dancing.
During the evening two strangers, who proved to be off-duty cameramen from TV (Wales), came and had a go at the
fast draw. It is reported that they really enjoyed themselves.
So there we are, another successful month! And if you've not been, just think how much better the club would be if
you came along too!
Looking forward to seeing you,
Mrs. Rusty.
