Website Report For April 05

Hi there! Well, what a month we've been having at the High Peak CWC. You'll have seen elsewhere on this website that our founders, Buckshot and Sylvia have left the club to the members! – something completely unsuspected at the beginning of April.

So now we're all knuckling down to it trying to get to grips with what Buckshot and Sylvia have been doing for the past two years, while at the same time trying to see how we can make things even better.

After a meeting on 15th April, when the main jobs were shared out we ended up with Sundown as our figurehead, (well, you can't miss him the spectacular way he dresses!) Preacher's sorting out who's on the door, and everybody who hasn't got a titled job is a marshal!

If you want to make any sense of what I'm writing, come along and see for yourself.

We're managed one Saturday so far and everything went swimmingly, although I'm not sure Kalamitty would agree as he sorted out the tables etc at the 'Waterloo' while he waited for everybody else to turn up! Anyway, we're still solvent, which is great news.

As I watched the acts this month I couldn't but think of Superman. When you see him as Clark Kent he's just an ordinary guy, but once he's changed into his outfit in the phone box he's fantastically superhuman.

Well, when our artistes arrive they look just like everybody else, but once they change into their outfits and appear on stage – Wow!

Our first act of the month was Dean Austin. He's from Canada, and he's a brilliant artist. He dresses well, and he has the authentic Country and Western voice. His guitar is spectacular just to look at. It's no wonder that he sets it up on stage before he comes on. The venue on this occasion was Sterndale Moor.

The next weekend, at the 'Waterloo', along came the contrasting Phil Steele, with his more colourful outfit – he wore a red white and green shirt and played a green guitar. He has a deep musical voice. We listened to him as we came to terms with the news that Buckshot and Dallas were going – what a difference a week makes.

The 16th April was the evening of the presentation. There was a good turnout to wish our founders all the best for the future. However, nobody could be too sad with that night's artist, Billy Stephens. He's big, he's Yorkshire and he's got a brilliant sense of humour, as any Yorkshire man living in Burnley, Lancashire, would have to have!

He wasn't even fazed by some of the more extravagant behaviour of one of our very colourful characters, Mule!

So despite all the upheavals the singing and the dancing and the banter just carried on – and how!

Donna Wylde was the artiste on our first night of communal responsibility. She might be small, but once she's behind the microphone she's 'little miss Dynamite!' She dresses well, has a great voice and generally knocks 'em dead. And she was even able to carry on through Sundown's banter, although once or twice I thought laughter might get the better of her!

That night Rusty had his first outing as Captain of the Rangers as he led the American Trilogy. His sudden promotion almost rendered him speechless! Preacher led 'El Silencio', which on this occasion had words.

Through all that went on the stalwart Kalamitty kept things together as our valiant DJ, Belle kept us all up to date with what had happened at the Friday meeting and Sundown liaised an all directions.

And the results of the fast draws?

2nd April – 1st Crazylegs Fred, 2nd Curly, 3rd Bronco.

9th April – 1st Sundown, 2nd Bronco.

16th April – 1st Frosty, 2nd Crazylegs Fred.

23rd April – 1st Sundown, 2nd Rusty.

So that's me finished. So long – hope to see y'all at our Bank Holiday Rendezvous! There's sure to be all sorts of surprising things happening!

 Mrs Rusty.
