Website Report For August

Hi there! The report for August is a bit short as it doesn't include the Bank Holiday Weekend, and we didn't meet on one Saturday. So here we go!

We start with the evening of Saturday 6th of August when we met at the 'Waterloo' hotel when our singer was Pete James. He reminded me a bit of George Formby, but much better looking, of course. And George Formby never dressed as a cowboy, as far as I know!

Pete was a really cheerful understated sort of guy, and he sang lots of songs we know and like, such as 'All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down,' 'Funny How Time Slips Away' and 'Little Ole Wine Drinking Me.' I see he also sang 'From A Jack To A King', (which I hadn't heard for years), and played a Chet Atkins instrumental 'One More For The Road.'

It was Santa's birthday and not only did he get a cake but he won an inordinate amount on the raffle.

A fortnight later we were back at the 'Waterloo' with Darren Jones. Once seen, never forgotten is what I say about Darren! He's very full of life and most of his songs seem to be very pacey. He said he wanted to get the dancers sweating; well I was sweating just listening to him.

Darren was dressed as a member of the Confederate army, and he looked quite dashing in his outfit. He sang lots of normal, if fast, songs as well as Johnny Cash's 'A Boy Named Sue' and 'Good Old Boys' from 'The Dukes Of Hazzard.' He ended his act with a catchy action song 'The Drinking Bone'.

Darren endeared himself to the cowboys amongst us by joining in with the Fast Draw contest, and then not being the best! Frosty and I got cakes with candles on for our birthdays, which was a nice surprise, and so I'm now speaking to Rusty again!

Then it was the Bank Holiday Weekend, so now go to that report. Ciao!
