Report For September 2005
Well, hi there! Another month has disappeared into the wide blue yonder and so it's time for another report from the High Peak
CWC.
Considering that it was a month with no particular special weekends we've really had quite an eventful time.
To begin with Kalamitty, our resident DJ, has had a month's well-earned rest, and yes! that does mean that Preacher has been
in charge of proceedings, so, events were quite likely to take an unusual turn.
We started off on Saturday 3rd September at the 'Waterloo' with Travis Logan. He turned up big and muscled and with his own special brand of programme, which included something for everyone. So we had line dance songs, cowboy songs, demonstrations of different types of music (with and without technological aids), so all in all quite a performance!
Unfortunately I missed the next Saturday evening at Sterndale Moor, when Alan Westwood was the artist. Everyone agreed that it
was a really good night, with lots of dancing, of course. I hope to catch you next time Alan!
It appears that Alan couldn't believe the raffle, which descended into anarchy as two people claimed each prize, and then
everyone did! I believe the prizes were eventually shared out amicably by the legions of winners. We could make this type of raffle a feature of the club, but it isn't that easy to replicate a cock-up.
On Saturday 17th we were still at Sterndale Moor with Andy Gates. I obviously thought the club was in need of funds as I directed Andy to Marlene who was collecting the door money! Well, he just didn't conform to my idea of a Country singer, even though he certainly sang like one.
Most of his songs were well known to the dancers, although I have noted the story songs 'She Walks These Hills With A Long
Black Veil and 'Seven Spanish Angels' as well. At the back of the room the singing cowboy dolls were joining in with gusto.
Barbara made us a wonderful hot pot which could be purchased for a small sum and there was cheesecake for afters. A satisfying
night!
Then on the last Saturday in the month we returned to the 'Waterloo'. We had quite a few visitors on this occasion, and so the
uninitiated were able to catch sight of Mule striding about the room in his holey red 'coms'.
Dick had come all the way from Grantham, and had a speaking accent to prove it! He was a friendly, laid back sort of bloke
that we all took to. He even threw in a few jokes as well.
Some of his line dance songs I hadn't heard for ages, like 'The Watermelon Crawl' and 'Memories Are Made Of This.' However I'm
informed by those in 'the know' that some of the old dances are coming back in again. Great! Maybe I can get them right this time round.
We're still having the Fast Draw and the Trilogies (American and Mexican), as well as the live act and the dancing, so if you
haven't visited us yet do come along. An evening at the High Peak CWC is an experience not to be missed!
And on that note I'll bid you adieu. So long!
