Website Report for December
Hi There! December has ended and I thought you'd like to hear some details of what's been happening.
The month started with a visit from that talented bundle of energy – Natalie Diamond – she of the hat and varied wardrobe.
Well, not only did she sing with feeling and move to the music, but this time she brought a guitar with her and played as well as
sang some of the songs. Fantastic! Mind you, the guitar was nearly as big as she was.
Meanwhile, at the bar the CWC members were writing suggestions for a new addition to the High Peak name, say, 'Fort Apache in the
High Peak,' or something like that. This went on for a week or two - we'll let you know what happens!
The next week the artist was Jack Daniels. Our DJ Kalamitty was having a night off and Preacher was at the CD player. (For anyone
who hasn't seen him in action, he really does have to be seen to be believed so come along and watch!)
Jack Daniels is a really friendly gentleman and he always brings a 'feel good factor to the club.' As when Natalie is on there was
lots of dancing, line and partner. I see that he had us doing a frantic hoe-down to 'Put Another Log On The Fire' straight after 'Settin' The Woods On Fire', and I haven't done that last one for a bit.
On the 17th December we were expecting Chris Kelly, but who should appear but Paul Reno, who hasn't visited us before. Paul had been expecting to go to Oswestry but he'd been rerouted to the almost, but not quite, frozen North.
Paul proved to be a jolly person and we liked him, even if his programme wasn't all Country because he threw in stuff like Roy
Orbison's 'Pretty Woman' and 'Every Time That You Walk In The Room' as well. We noticed that he was very proficient on the guitar too.
I'm not too sure what Paul thinks of us, but as whistling balloons screamed past his head he did say something like, "You're
all crazy," but I expect he was joking!
It was Christmas Party night and Alison, our caterer, had put on lots of lovely grub.
It was also the night when presentations were made for the Fast Draw. Curly had the most points over the year and so he won the
English Bob Challenge Trophy, with Frosty coming second.
The Fast Draw on this one occasion was for fast draw 'virgins.' It was amazing how good some of them were, especially since many
hadn't handled a gun at all before this. There was only one trophy and it went to Ozzie.
Paul and Sybil, who had been organising the raffle, have decided to call it a day and so thanks were given to them for all their
hard work.
On Christmas Eve there was an informal gathering which I didn't attend but I gather everybody who went had a good time. The singer
was Roy – I don't know if he took on an artist's name on this occasion – and I gather he did three spots and there was a lot of dancing.
Now we come to the last night of the year. A joint New Year's Eve Party was held between Sterndale Moor Social Club and High Peak
CWC. The artist was Graham Clark, who did a sterling job trying to cater for everyone, and so he threw in some Rock items to go with the Country and Western.
He tried to get everyone dancing, and Crazylegs and Lyn certainly kept at it, with others joining in from time to time.
Our DJ, Kalamitty, had found quite a variety of different types of CD to play, including Christmas ones and ones for the children.
He also dressed up as a clown, told jokes, organised a game and played on into the wee small hours. Quite an accomplishment!
Alison had organised an absolutely wonderful spread, and Jenny had put out loads of raffle prizes. There were so many tickets sold
that I don't know how she managed to sell them all – or fold them all up!
The party had been advertised as fancy dress. I was, however, surprised to walk into a dark room to find Scrooge sitting at a table,
complete with a lit candle in a candlestick. Charlie Chaplin was with him! Amongst others there was also a Chinese mandarin complete with pigtail.
After midnight and Auld Lang Syne there were a whole load of kids having a real go at line dancing, and making a really good job of
it. Lets hope they continue.
So that's December.
A Happy and Prosperous New Year to y'all. See yah – I hope,
Mrs Rusty
