Report From Rebels Retreat For December 2006

Hi there, Happy New Year to Y'all!

Well, what a December we've had. First artist up, Stu Peters, with a smile from ear to ear and fancy pins all over his vest. (waistcoat if you insist on English!) I see from my notes that he was exchanging banter with Santa, so everyone was having a real good time. He had some really weird expressions, for instance, "check each others ears for ear wax" while you're dancing, well, what could that mean? It turns out, 'get real close to your partner!' He's quite a guy with the singing and guitar playing too - a recipe for a real good night.

Now if you want some really fancy artists for a Christmas Party you sure couldn't get any better than that male/female duo, 'Souls'n'Stone. Well, we got 'em! What a night that was! The food was brilliant - everybody brought something, Jacob's table they called it. The artists were out of this world.

The lady said that the quiet guy of the duo like watching Black Coffee because he looked 'for the best wigglers.' I reckon that if he wanted some real good eye candy he just needed to look at the lady on stage with him, she was really something! - and they were both talented too.

Santa changed out of his mufti during the interval and came through in his red outfit and sack - looking for little people to give sweets to. Nora, Preacher's mother, changed into her Santa-cloth bikini to give the guys a thrill, put Preacher's nose right out of joint - "I ain't lookin' for another Daddy," he muttered. Those fine folks, the Lichfielders, came by too. They'd dressed as Santa as well, but you just can't beat the real thing!

The 'Virgins' had a Fast Draw, Bronco gave Jivin' Jim some lessons, and if he didn't win the Virgin Trophy. Jim was so bowled over that he couldn't believe his luck. Mind you, at the last minute Bronco had snuck up on the inside and clinched the Bob English Trophy for himself the week before, with Rusty coming up second. They do say that second in a Fast Draw ain't exactly the best place to be though. Anyway, the cups are real special, and they get to keep them on their mantlepieces for a whole year!

Who should mosey in on the third Saturday of December but Dave West Junior? Boy, was this guy tall? He dressed in black and had a real good American accent, reminded me of the fella who sat next us on the plane to Arizona last June. On this evening we had the first exhibition of dancing to 'Friends In Low Places.' Some of those gals sure got real low. For some reason Frosty appeared with a water pistol, I think he trying to ensure that no situation got too steamy!

There was a hoe down too, triggered by a medley including 'Y'All Come' and Rocky Top.' That sure was a fun night!

On the 23rd we didn't know who was going to show and so we had a CD night, with not one, but two, DJs. Our old pal Kalamitty has been gracing Rebels Retreat with his presence lately, along of his good lady Westie. It's real great to see them back, the guys' eyes sure light up when Westie's around and Kalamitty ensures we have lots of good laughs. So that night we had a good friendly time.

Bill Stevens came on December 30th, but I didn't, so I can't comment on what I didn't see or hear, but I'll remedy this when he comes another time.

Then it was New Year's Eve. We knew we had the awesome artist Woody, with his musical talent, but he brought Don with him too. Seems that Woody had a problem in the throat department and needed back up, not that it showed up to us. Anyway, we had another great night. Don was a bit of a comedian, wearing the occasional war bonnet, Elvis wig and even changing his face with a mask to make us laugh. But you just couldn't mask the talent up on stage.

Guitar, violin, mandolin, banjo - Woody could play them all - and how! Our friends from Sterndale Moor were sharing the event, and they may be no Country and Westerners, but they sure rated Woody!

The food was awesome too, as Alison, our caterer for the night, had put on a really great spread. Woody and Don sang 'Auld Lang Syne' and then everybody, especially the younger element, started whooping it up to, 'Aga Do Do Do, Push Pineapple Shake a Tree' - well, it weren't only Country and Western that Night. Campbell turned up as an Arab Sheik, which proves it.

Now we're back in January, and everything'll be back to normal - or will it? It's up to you!

 Chao!

 Mrs Rusty
