Report For April 2006
Hi there! With all the excitement of the Roundups it's easy to forget that there were three ordinary Saturday nights in April
as well. This is a report about them.
The first two took place at Sterndale Moor Social Club and the third at the 'Waterloo.' That was the last meeting at the
'Waterloo' and from now on we will be a one-venue club.
On the first Saturday night the artist was Richard Palmer a well dressed and handsome, and very young, man. As well as doing
some extremely complicated fingering on the guitar he sang lots of modern line dance songs.
His charm was such that I even noticed Dolly singing and dancing to the Froggie song, 'It Was Nice To Have Known You Anyway.'
Next up was one of our favourite artists, Johnny Holland. Johnny is a class performer who sings and plays with attitude. He
always dresses well, although he and Santa were surprised to find that they both had the same original hat. With him comes his wife, Carol, and her friend Sue who join in with the line dancing, and sometimes know
some we don't.
Our former DJ Kalamitty and his wife Westie came to see us on this occasion. It was really nice to see them, and Alison
presented them with flowers and presents on behalf of Rebels Retreat and Sterndale Moor Club because of their contribution to both clubs.
The last night at the 'Waterloo' was on the 22nd. The artist was Ian Carter, a stand-in artist who turned in a
performance that everyone present enjoyed immensely. Although there weren't many present he was in no way phased and soon had everyone up and dancing.
Nora, Preacher's mother, was in great demand as a dancing partner, and we think that Preacher was a little miffed to find that
she got more attention than he did!
Despite the low-turn out we even had a Fast Draw, Dinkie came second and K2 first, and the customary Trilogies. (Even though
the participants were practically all rookies.)
So well done to all those at Rebels Retreat who can turn a potential disaster into a triumph.
I should add that we are now into the warmer weather and the numbers are well up again. Do come and visit us if you want a
brilliant evening with a live Country artist and Western line dancing and fun, including a Fast Draw.
That's all for now! Ciao!
