Website Report For February 2006

Hi there! Well, February at the High Peak CWC is over, a short month - but a pleasant one.

Our first three Saturdays were at Sterndale Moor, and the last at the 'Waterloo', Taddington. All of our artists were known to us, stalwarts who could be relied on even in the cold weather!

Our act on the first Saturday was Grandpa T. Smith, a benevolently cheerful gentleman who caters well with the dancers. Unfortunately I missed this evening and so can't really comment further, although Rusty says everyone enjoyed themselves.

Our artist on the 11th was Carolann B., a really feisty lady who sings with passion and does her best to cater for all sections of the audience. Carolann brings her husband as the soundman, as well as loads of equipment to make sure that her act is really tip-top.

She introduced us to a third verse of 'Seven Spanish Angels', and I wish I'd written the words down so that we can insist every other artist sings it too - (only kidding!)

This was the evening when Frosty and Alice got engaged, and we wished them both every happiness.

Then on the 18th Kris Davies came from Burnley to entertain us. Neither Rusty nor I were present on this occasion but I had some really glowing reports. Apparently he brought his partner, who is a line dancer, with him. I missed him last time, so I'm hoping that in future it'll be third time lucky! (And so unfortunately we don't have a picture of him on the website yet)

The artist on 25th February should have been Kris Kelly, but she cancelled, and so Jack Daniels rode in to the rescue. I won't say it was a cold night, but Jack wore his cowboy hat to keep his head warm!

Jack sang lots of line dancing songs, including a couple I hadn't heard for a bit - 'The Boys of Ballymore' and 'Settin' The Woods On Fire.' Jack always acts like just another member of the club and he makes time to chat with all the members.

An interesting feature of the Club at the moment is the opportunity for Fast Draw 'virgins' to have a go in the 'Shoot Out.' They've been really cottoning on to '6 and 3' and are now fighting it out with the 'Thumbust.'

They go by such colourful names as 'The Man With No Name', 'Wild Bill Bitcock' (Did I really hear that correctly?) and R. Sole (??) Well, as you can see, you don't have to be crazy to fit in at the High Peak CWC, but it sure helps.

Meanwhile Preacher is getting to grips with the mountains of CDs he's inherited, while struggling with further suggestions and requests from the floor. Well done Preacher!

Actually, there's all sorts of unsung heroes who keep the club going, so in fact, well done to everyone. The Winter's nearly over and everything's going fine.

 See ya!
