Website Report for March
Hi there!
Well, what an interesting month March has been! There's been snow and ice and people away, and some absolutely cracking acts!
And a name change too!
So now we're 'Rebels Retreat, Home of High Peak Country and Western Club.' Remember the name and look out for our interesting
new logo!
Our act on the first Saturday was Phil Lloyd. He was in the tradition of the all round entertainer. He looked good, sang and
played well and indulged in the good-natured banter for which our club is famous!
Mind you, when he likened our own Mick from Ashbourne to Max Wall he may have gone a tad far!
On the next Saturday, the 11th, Mike Neilson arrived. What a trouper! The numbers in our club were really down,
thanks to a number of circumstances, but Mike was just the man to keep things going.
Our DJ Preacher imported some children from another room in the club, (bribed?), and Mike sorted out a programme to suit
everyone. Rusty, with the aid of Chantilly, showed the youngsters how to do some of the dances and I'm told everyone present had a wonderful time.
Our next artist, on the 18th, was Ronnie J. Morson. He was quite young and well turned out, presenting us with
several songs which were completely new to me.
I have noted songs like, 'Hard Rock Bottom Of Your Heart,' 'The Old Man From The Mountains,' 'God Bless The Tennessee River'
and 'Tequila Makes Her clothes fall Off.' (Now there's a title to conjure with!) All of his songs may not have been suitable to dance to, but I believe that they were really cutting edge, and they sure were
interesting!
Ronnie was a good sport, and he joined in with the Fast Draw. As I've mentioned before we are now encouraging Fast Draw
'virgins' to join in by suspending the usual trophy competition. This has led to lots of fun, not to mention some really original Western names - for instance R.Sole, Timex, Raindancer and the intriguing Man With No
Name!
The 18th was made even more fabulous than usual by an absolutely splendid buffet provided by Preacher and his mother Nora for their joint birthdays. Alison, our usual caterer, was responsible laying on what was a positive feast.
I missed the last meeting of the month, at the 'Waterloo,' Taddington. (All the others were at Sterndale Moor Social Club.)
The artist was Billy Stevens. I've had really good reports about the evening and have heard that the dancers really enjoyed themselves.
Billy was apparently so accommodating that when Preacher found that he'd mislaid the Trilogy CD he (Billy) provided a live
rendition.
We are now in the improved Spring weather of April, and we can't wait for the Easter Roundup when we've got some fabulous acts
booked. Hope to see you soon.
Ciao!
Mrs. Rusty.
