Website Report For April 07

 Hi there!

Well, to quote from the film, 'Guess Who's Coming To Dinner?', "All hell done been let loose" down at Rebels Retreat.

On Friday 13th April, (wouldn't you know it?) there was an A.G.M., which resulted in two people being created joint-chairmen of the club – Preacher (who had been Chairman since the loss of Sundown 2 years ago, and who has never taken a break since then, missing only one Saturday in all that time, and also been the DJ since taking over when Kalamitty left) – and Curly.

Preacher accepted the findings at the time, but the next day tendered his resignation as Chairman and DJ, feeling that the split vote had showed a lack of support for him and a lack of appreciation of his dedication to the club.

And so on Saturday, 14th April we were all reeling from shock. The result was a very flat evening. Things would have been much worse without Crazylegs Fred, Westerner and line dancer, who took the microphone and kept the show going, together with Harley, Preacher's apprentice DJ, who kept the discs playing.

Meanwhile, the artist was Harvey Stevens, who sang a lot of songs suitable for dancing, some of them relatively modern, like 'Speak To The Sky,' and 'Kill The Spider.' Harvey dressed smartly and I especially liked the Caribbean-style shirt he wore in the third spot.

Then we had a weekend off, seeing as how the room was being had been booked for a different event. (We use a room at Sterndale Moor Social Club, of which many of us are members.)

Then, on Saturday 28th, the artist was Johnny Holland, that stylish player and singer. As usual he brought along his attractive line-dancing wife, Carol, who joined in with the dancing equally stylishly. Johnny has a good voice, and sings in a really relaxed style.

We were very pleased on this evening to see Preacher, Nora and Mandy at their usual table, although we missed his quips about Jenny's relatives during the raffle, and all his comments during the gunfight.

Meanwhile, we congratulated Curly on his new granddaughter, Alana, who had arrived earlier in the evening. (Chantilly was in attendance at the bedside.)

And so Rebels Retreat still carries on, with Curly as Chairman and Harley as DJ. The rest of the committee are virtually the same, except that Mick S. (Dakota) replaces Tony who has earlier resigned because of lack of time to devote to the club.

So watch this space. Maybe we ain't seen nothing yet! It's the May Roundup next weekend – should be fun!

 Ciao!

 Mrs Rusty

N.B. Despite rumours to the contrary I can catagorically say that Preacher did NOT stand down before or during the A.G.M.
