  Website Report For September

 Hi there!

You'll probably recall that the first weekend of September was dedicated to the Charity Weekend for Air Ambulance, and a report on that is available on the Sterndale Moor Website. I will only comment that I hope that the weekend chosen next month will not be the wettest of the year – just for change!

So, back to the rest of the month! Rebels Retreat is still going strong, despite a blip on September 13th, when we only had nine people arrive. (Could it have been anything to do with the date?) But even then we had a really good time, since the artist was a new young lady, Lynnette Marie, who gave us a truly fabulous evening, since she sure gave of her best. Her Mum, a real nice lady, came along too.

Lynnette was not only decorative – she changed from one great outfit to another for each of her three spots – but she gave us a really interesting programme which included lots brilliant songs which she sang with real feeling like 'You Ain't Woman Enough To Take My Man' (Crystal Gale), 'Love Me A Little Bit Longer' (Heather Myles) and 'Suds In The Bucket' (Sarah Evans).

All those who were there are all looking forward to Lynnette's next visit when I'm sure there'll be the audience she deserves. (On this occasion she hadn't been expected as she was filling in for the booked singer who was indisposed.)

The next Saturday, the 20th, couldn't have been a greater contrast, because folks started arriving even before the door was open! It was Katie Rhodes, the rising star from North Manchester, who was our singer on that night, and several people had travelled from afar – well, Wigan – to hear her. I shall just mention Harold, and a couple of ladies Katie referred to as Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee!

Our artist looked real fine with her blonde hair and beautiful outfits (including the black net gloves), and she gave us another great evening, as she also had a programme of brilliant songs, this time enhanced by the expertise of her sound man and manager, Ady, who was working away all night. In the audience I saw Shirley flashing away with her coloured tambourine. It's good when the audience join in! There was lots of dancing too.

There were so many great songs that its difficult to pick out which to mention, but here goes – Kellie Pickler's 'I Wonder,' Reba McEntire's 'Wrong Night,' Leann Rimes' 'The Rose,' and Clay Walker's's 'Dreaming with My Eyes Wide Open' and Heather Myles' 'I Don't Feel That Way Any More.' (Katie has been on tour with Heather Myles, and I believe that she will be travelling with her again).

Saturday 27th was another good night, because our artist was Cole Jackson, who again was obviously popular with people who had heard him before, this time at Mayfield. Cole was a really good singer with a friendly, relaxed style. He repertoire was wide ranging, and included 'Me And Bobbie McGee,' Don Williams 'Good Ole Boys,' Alan Jackson's 'Livin' On Love' and 'Ride The River.' as usual there was lots of dancing.

Me, I'm pretty upbeat about what's been going on at Rebels Retreat at the moment, but at the same time I often hark back to times past and missing friends, those who have passed on, and those who have moved on.

And on that note I'll say 'So long, partners!' Looking forward to the good times ahead. See you soon!
