New Year's Eve Party (RR and SMSC 2007)
Hi there, y'all!
The New Year's Eve party was a real fine occasion, many tickets had been sold (although unfortunately the 'lergy had claimed quite a few people)
and Mandy had laid on a fine spread, augmented by Jenny's two hundred mince pies!
It was great to see some old friends coming in, and we knew we were in for a good time when Woody and Don arrived laden with loads of instruments,
guitars, banjo, ukulele and mandolin. (Yes, Woody sure is a versatile player, and he and Don go together real well.)
Several of the Cowboy Club were dressed up to the nines in their outfits. K2, I think, was an hilly billy – check out his photo in the gallery to
see if you agree! The Social Club side didn't come in until later, but they looked good too, and made the dancing a bit different, especially after 'Old Lang Syne' at midnight – give or take.
Woody and Don's music was all about the sound of the strings, instrumental phrases cropping up in all sorts of songs, and very evocative of the foot
tapping and floor board bending sounds associated with folk dancing. There was 'Put Another Log On The Fire,' great for the hoe down, and 'Y'All Come' which I've noted even had Santa
dancing!
It was really good to see youngsters from Preacher and Rusty's class coming in again, and they were presented with certificates to mark their
excellent dancing progress. Then preacher put on some CDs for them so that they could demonstrate their prowess, and of course lots of other guests joined in too.
The duo's musical programme ended with a variety of different songs, like Dire Straits' 'Here Comes Johnny,' Elvis's 'Caught In A
Trap' and of course 'The Devil Went Down To Georgia' (with violin). These were followed by traditional songs like 'The Irish Rover,' an instrumental Scottish reel and other fiddle tunes, ending
with 'Young At Heart' and 'Ghost Riders In The Sky' – all making for a really great musical night.
Then Preacher took over with his CDs and everyone seemed to be having fun, and looking forward to a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
Cheers,
Mrs Rusty
