Well, what a Bank Holiday weekend the High Peak C.W.C. has had up at Sterndale Moor Club.
Everything started off on a high on Friday evening as singer Paul Taylor entered into
the spirit of things and exchanged banter with the regulars. He even invited one of our number, 'Preacher' onto the stage to sing 'Billy B. Bad' with him, brave man! - and he brought along a friend to share the last
spot with him.
The duo on Saturday evening was 'Canadian Suite.' It was strange to hear Canadian voices in this neck of the woods! During the
evening there were court martials against Kalamitty and Frosty for disrespect to the Confederate flag.
Kalamitty was lucky to escape a further court martial for chatting at the bar when he should have been attending to his DJ
duties.
We were pleased to welcome a group of visitors who came to join the campers at the weekend. They entered into the occasion on
Sunday evening by court martialing one of their own number for being 'drunk and disorderly' on the previous evening. At least I think that's what the charge was!
Sunday night's singer was Dave Sheriff, resplendent in his glittering suits. The dancers were out in force as he sang with his
customary verve. He also showed his musical versatility as he played not only the guitar but also the saxophone, the mouth organ and the violin.
During the second break Buckshot presented the awards for the afternoon fast draws, and then the award winners went off for a
group photograph.
On all three evenings there was plenty of opportunity to line and partner dance, and it is good to see the younger element
joining in.
There were fast draws on both Friday and Saturday evenings when the winner was Maverick on both occasions.
Thank you to all those who worked so hard to make this May Day Weekend a success, not forgetting the workers at the club who
kept us amply provided with food and drink.
The next Weekend special is the Spring Bank Holiday (details on our Special Events Page) ………We hope to see you there!
