End of May Report on High Peak CWC.
Another successful month at the High Peak!
You've already heard about the bank holiday weekend at the beginning of May. On the next Saturday we were
back at 'The Waterloo' with the solo artist B.J.Locklin. He talked in Scottish but, fortunately, sang in Country and Western, so at least we could understand his songs.
As he sang and danced around the room I was forcibly reminded of Rumplestiltskin triumphantly proclaiming
that the Queen would never be able to find out his name. Maybe he was celebrating that we'd never find out what he was talking about!
On the 15th we had Jeff Cliffson entertaining us at Sterndale Moor. We weren't surprised by his fine singing voice as we suspect he comes from Wales.
This was one of the weekends when we were over-run by tiny cowboys from planet Country and Western singing
'Achy, Breaky Heart.' (See photos) They're brought in by Miss Molly and Moonshiner who allow lonely club members to adopt them for a small sum.
Back at 'The Waterloo' on the 22nd May the entertainers were Country Code. They were brilliant at getting the audience involved being on the same wavelength as our club members. (Scary!)
Then we come to the end of May Bank Holiday weekend, once again at Sterndale Moor.
On Friday night our singer was Jack Daniels. The atmosphere was convivial even though it would have
been nice to have more people present. However what was lacking in numbers was made up for by enthusiasm.
Jack Daniels and his wife went on to spend the weekend with the club. Their humour and his
impromptu singing contributed to the enjoyment of the campers.
(See another page for the results of the afternoon competitions.)
The singers on Saturday evening were Westride. Apparently they played Shadows music and by some convoluted means Frosty (one of our regulars) turned into Hank Marvin playing air guitar on a blow-up instrument. (Don't ask me - I wasn't there!)
Frosty told me, "Westride were very good, but the Shadows were better, especially Hank on the air guitar."
Well, he would say that, wouldn't he?
Sunday's entertainer was Gary Haynes. He was sharply dressed and being young and enthusiastic he
sang some pretty rousing Country and Western songs. The line dancers were out in force, and we were all sad when the weekend was over.
Many thanks once again to Buckshot and Dallas who run our club so successfully, and to Kalamitty
for being the DJ (most of the time). Also to all other helpers who enable things to run so smoothly.
NB During every evening there is a fast-draw and a raffle. Each evening ends with the American Trilogy and the Mexican Trilogy. I
will write about these on another occasion.
