It is with great sorrow that I announce the sad loss of Sundown, who died on June 27th. Sundown was one of the founder members of the club when Buckshot set it up after the closure of Fort Stanley at Waterhouses and he lent distinction to the club with his marvellous dress-sense, the most impressive of his outfits being that of a general in the Confederate Army. Saturday nights were enlivened by his dry wit, his ability in the fast-draw and the distinction with which he lead the trilogy. He was always on hand to give advice to both newcomers to the Western scene and to the old hands regarding anything to do with the Old West, cowboys, American Civil War, Western Guns, etc., etc. He had a wealth of information which he was always willing to share with the rest of us. Even though, as we later discovered, he was quite ill, he still took the time to pass on his knowledge, and in particular to instruct myself and Curly as to how to run the Trilogy so ensuring that we could carry on the tradition started by he and Buckshot. I hope we can continue to conduct this very serious part of the evening to the same standard. Sundown also led us through the takeover phase when Buckshot passed the Club on to be run by a committee with he as our elected Chairman.
He will be sadly missed. Rusty
